Spiders and bracken

Post by AnnemarieMorris »

I work hard to clear bracken from my main meadows as when we first moved here it was rather too dominant and now we keep it to the edges. However, today whilst cutting some, I noticed these delightful spiders on the underside of the fronds. Photos are not great but I would welcome an ID if anyone can!
Many thanks.

Lovely! They are candy striped spiders. They are attentive mothers and will stay with their eggs if you have to move them (as we have done accidentally while scything). If you are on Facebook, there is a wonderful group called British Spider Identification that will identify spider photos for you and provide lots of fascinating information
