Do you have a wildflower-rich meadow and would like to make a difference for nature along the coast? Why not donate wildflower seed or green hay to the Life on the Edge project?
Life on the Edge is a National Lottery Heritage Fund and Devon Environment Foundation funded project run by South Devon National Landscape and Buglife which is aiming to restore wildflower-rich grasslands and thriving populations of some of the UK’s rarest invertebrates along the South Devon Coast. The project focuses on thirty target species including the rarest bee in Britain, the Six-banded Nomad Bee. We aim to build a network of 1,300ha of nature friendly farmland across South Devon including 100ha of species rich coastal grassland and 365ha of coastal grassland in restoration towards species richness.

Our Offer
South Devon
If you have a meadow of over a hectare in South Devon and would like to donate seed or green hay to the project, please get in touch. We can arrange to have your meadow professionally surveyed using the DAFOR scale, then, we can arrange for your meadow to be brush harvested or cut for green hay.
We can also provide free expert advice on meadow management and agri-environment schemes when they reopen from this summer. The botanical survey we have commissioned will then act as evidence for any GRH6 applications made in the SFI scheme when it reopens.
Furthermore, if you are in the coastal B-line (3km from the coast), you may also be eligible for a Life on the Edge conservation grant for conservation actions taken to improve your land for invertebrates that go over and above agri-environment payments. https://www.southdevon-nl.org.uk/wp-con ... -Sheet.pdf
Outside South Devon
If you are outside South Devon and would like to contribute to the project, we are also interested in buying brush harvested wildflower seed, but unfortunately, we are not able to provide any of our other services as part of our project.
