Big Devon Meadows Count 2025 is here!

Post by LisaSchneidau »

Hi everyone, we’re delighted to announce the official project kickoff of The Big Devon Meadows Count 2025!

The Big Devon Meadows Count is an exciting collaboration between Moor Meadows and the Devon Biodiversity Records Centre, funded by the Devon Environment Foundation.

Last year’s pilot project revealed remarkable findings - several Moor Meadows members discovered their grasslands were so plant-diverse that they qualified for County Wildlife Site designation, the equivalent of a gold medal for managing land as a UK priority habitat.

To kick off this year’s rollout, we’re thrilled to welcome grassland ecologist Jerry Tallowin from Rothamsted Research for an online talk addressing a key question:

What is a Meadow? Defining These Vital Habitats
📅 31st March
🕢 7.30pm, online
🎤 Speaker: Jerry Tallowin, Research Scientist, Rothamsted Research

Whether you're a seasoned meadow maker or simply curious about these vital habitats, this talk is for you!

After Jerry’s talk, Lisa Schneidau (Project Manager, The Big Devon Meadows Count) and Jack Rivers (Ecologist, Devon Biodiversity Records Centre) will introduce this exciting project, explaining its importance and how you can get involved.
The evening will be hosted by Sophie Pavelle, author and science communicator.

Don’t miss this chance to learn, connect, and be part of an inspiring conservation effort!

Can’t wait for the talks? Find out more about the project here on the website: https://moormeadows.org.uk/big-devon-me ... ount-2025/
