Devon Rural Skills Trust is offering a small number of free places on its training courses to under-25s who have an interest in threatened countryside skills.
One free place on each of its Saturday training courses will be available to young people aged 18 to 25.
Devon Rural Skills Trust (DRST) runs training courses in hedge-laying, dry stone walling, and in other countryside crafts, throughout the year.
DRST spokesman Chris Baker said: “Young people are often under-represented on our courses and we would dearly like to attract many more, which is why we are funding this scheme.
“Who knows, the young people joining us on these training days may become the craftsmen and women of the future, and in 30 years time be the ones passing on these threatened and often neglected traditional skills to the next generation.”
DRST was founded more than 40 years ago to try to ensure Devon’s countryside crafts continue to be practised, and that there are enough skilled people to keep those crafts alive.
How to book:
Free places can be booked by under-25s living in Devon, or in an adjacent county. Only one free place per young person will available for the duration of the scheme (September 2024 to July 2025). Book by visiting: www.drst.org.uk
When booking say you would like to take advantage of DRST’s under-25s scheme. Minimum age 18.
