Life on the Edge Project - South Devon AONB (updated)
Posted: Mon Mar 27, 2023 11:39 am
Life on the Edge aims to work with partners and land owners to restore and connect species rich coastal grasslands to secure habitat for some of the UKs rarest invertebrates. It will work with rural and urban communities to provide opportunities for people of all ages to engage with nature, discover more about these rare and endangered invertebrates, enjoy the South Devon AONB coast and play a part in this large-scale nature recovery project!
This project aims to help restore the thriving populations of some of the UK’s rarest insects living along the South Devon Coast between Berry Head and Wembury, such as the Moon Spider and the Mediterranean Oil Beetle. It is a partner project, headed by the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, working together with several partners such as Buglife, The National Trust and Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust. This has been made possible by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, helping us make important and amazing discoveries such as the Brown Banded Carder Bee and Mediterranean Oil Beetles spotted last year.
We hold events throughout the year so people can support this wonderful project! (See https://www.southdevonaonb.org.uk/events/ to find them!)
