Grazing information - Cross refs = principles/practical experience/answers
For the principles -
This Website: Resources/Your Recommendations/pdfs/ and the MM video channel Conservation Grazing parts 1 and 2 available free on youtube
lots of info for wet weather/dark evenings reading
viewforum.php?f=74
and for practical experience - Discussion re ponies on this forum. It would be nice if someone detailed their experiences with cattle, goats, sheep..
and for the explanations behind the principles recommended to us meadow makers.
(with thanks to the Herefordshire Meadows website for their cross ref) -
The Lowland Grassland Management Handbook (Second edition) (GRASSLAND)
http://publications.naturalengland.org. ... tion/35034
Chapter 5 covers grazing.
Chapter 6 covers cutting.
Chapter 10.4.1 Grazing to restore derelict grasslands (just a brief description of how grazing can help tackle neglected grassland)
Chapter 2 deals with those 'mystery' (to me) National Vegetation Classifications
(if you're really keen, have a look at the JNCC NVC handbook - not easy reading for non
botanists
https://hub.jncc.gov.uk/assets/a407ebfc ... de9c8e28c7)
and there's so much more..but for easy navigation, have a look at the 'Contents' download found in the second half of the page on the link above.
Published in 1999, and still valid - here are the in depth answers to lots of queries.
I'm still reading through it, but I've already had quite a few "Drrr, of course!" moments.
Really useful and satisfying to have those queries at the back of the mind answered.
