Some photos of our first hedge layed this week by contractors. Amazing transformation over 3 days. I agree with everyone who favours stepping a hedge over flailing the very life out of it.

Notice trees left at intervals. I shall plant further Holly, Hazel, wayfaring , spindle , dog Rose and honeysuckle etc.

Hi Philip,
That looks amazing. Hav you any pictures of the hedge before the work was done? It would be interesting to see. There's a really good Devon Hedge Group which is free to join. I would highly recommend it. They organise visits to farms and nature reserves. They have also published an excellenthandbook on hedgerow management. Good luck with all the work you're doing and thank you for sharing news of your progress

Some recent photos of our hedge and bank regrowth following steeping and cutting in Jan and March this year. Formerly an ancient orchard the last trees were removed in 1965 to make way for the electricity pylons that cross the fields. My grandfather who farmed at Denbury and Marldon bought the fields around 1942 . They have never been ploughed or intensively farmed. Now the larger field classified as a County Wildlife Site.
