Biodiversity crisis - a very positive alternative view

Post by Orlando Rutter »

I have just re-read Chris D Thomas' Inheritors of the earth.

As thought provoking, challenging to conventional conservation management practice and uplifting as when I first read it 5 years ago. Makes a strong case for us to rethink our approach to 'alien species', the role that we have in not only maintaining but enhancing biodiversity and rethinking our philosophical relationship to 'nature'. Reinforces the importance of the work that all of you are undertaking in 'making meadows.

The author is well placed to challenge accepted wisdon: he is Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of York and a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Be prepared to change your mind - and to see the changes we are living through in a longer time perspective and much more positively!
