When to make hay
I would normally leave making hay to as late in the summer as possible- last year September. But everything has gone to seed this year already because of the drought. Do I need to bring hay making forward and do it now? Any decision to make hay will no doubt lead to torrential storms :-) Many thanks...

Re: Creating a new wildlife pond
Hi Have contacted the Freshwater Habitats Trust and they are getting someone local to contact me to discuss the idea. It was the ecologist on her site review who suggested it and the AONB officer who got excited about it. It hadn't occurred to us! My husband is a little concerned as he feels the dig...

Re: A new West Devon group
Sorry for delay in replying. Always find it difficult to remember how to log on to the forum! Nowhere really close but I can try in Tavistock to see if there is anywhere friendly to put up posters etc. It would be great to organise a West Devon get-together when possible.

Re: Creating a new wildlife pond
Thanks Steve- really useful points. Have already looked at the Freshwater Habitats site which I found too overwhelming to be useful. Great point about the planning. We have just had the development officer from the AONB whose suggestion this was but I do understand the two authorities may not have t...

Creating a new wildlife pond
Slightly off topic of meadows but we are looking to establish a large wildlife pond or series of ponds as part of our 3 acre site. Does anyone know of an expert in the Tavistock area (or Devon) who could offer some advice.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: A new West Devon group
Hi I am based near Gulworthy and happy to join in with West Devon group. As part of the AONB I am interested to make contact with other people based in the AONB and local to the Tamar Valley to see what self help we can provide.

Re: Advice in West Devon
Hi we are just starting to maintain 3 acres for a species rich hay meadow just near Gulworthy. Would be great if we could get a self help group going for the Tamar Valley.

Re: A new West Devon group
We have just moved to Gulworthy outside Tavistock. We have 3 acres which we hope to rewild including adding a hay meadow area. Completely new endeavour and knowledge area for us but enthusiastic. Happy to help where possible but limited experience. Hope the group will when allowed be able to meet to...
